Elujay & J. Robb collaborate on ‘GEMS IN THE CORNERSTORE’ EP.
J. Robb ‘da producer’ and vocalist/producer/songwriter Elujay teamed up to release their EP ‘Gems in the Cornerstore’.
The 11-track, 28 minute EP released via Soulection Records displays the duo’s eclectic array of sounds in a fusion of feel good vibes, modern funk, trap and Jazz inspired melodies.
“It’s like a buffet with so much variety — there’s something for everyone,” said Elujay, “We wanted to make something fun and carefree for people to enjoy.”
The two young creatives met through popular music platform 'Soundcloud’ in 2016 and have built upon their musical relationship since.
“I feel like [j. robb] is somebody I can feel super comfortable with and play everything in my discography,” said Elujay adding, “I feel like that’s the number one thing you need to have between your collaborator.”
The project’s inception began via ZOOM during quarantine with the two exchanging ideas. One song turned into two then three songs turned into five, which ultimately led them to make a full length EP.
The title ‘Gems in the Cornerstore’ is an idiom for “Diamond in the rough” — A lyric originally from a song off Elujay’s upcoming album.
“The cornerstore is a common place where you can get all sorts of products, but there’s certain things you can find there that are Gems,” said Elujay.
“That’s what’s so cool about the project, you didn’t think that we would collab, you didn’t think that we would make this kind of song, you didn’t think that all these kind of songs would be together on a project.”
J Robb’s hard-hitting drums and rare cords are present throughout the 11-track EP, which includes two interludes and a prelude.
‘Gems in the cornerstore’ consist of features from Zilo, Foggieraw, Ciscero and Kyle Dion — while production credits were attributed to Cay Caleb, Jamvvis, Pandi, HXNS, ROMderful, Kev Choice and Naji. The duo are fans of each artist music and were excited to have them apart of the EP.
Elujay says his favorite songs are “Wasting my time (feat. Zilo)” and “Came for (prelude)”, while J. Robb’s favorites are “Callin My Name (feat. Ciscero)” and “Lady (feat. Kyle Dion)”.

When asked what reception he hopes the project receives, Elujay responded, “I hope for the best — we’re just putting up shots. It’s 2020, this is our last effort and I hope it resonates with most people.”
