"The Wave" Volume No. 21 (Parenthood)

The Wave Volume No. 21 (Sorai) is all about parenthood. My girlfriend and I are expecting a baby girl named Sorai in August 2020.

I’ve experienced every possible emotion since I found out she was pregnant on New Years eve. This wasn’t a planned pregnancy and I thought my life was over. My mindset was extremely negative because I didn’t want to have the responsibility of a child right now. I didn’t think I was ready mentally or financially.

The first person I told was my dad Ray Virgin. He helped realign my thoughts, assuring that I am prepared for fatherhood, no matter the situation.

I decided to ask people around me how their children changed their lives and quickly discovered that this would be the greatest blessing possible.

One of those people was my former colleague Ameenah Phelps. She came to #supportahustla during my very first all-vinyl DJ set in East Atlanta. We spoke at length about life, clarity, and parenthood. She said becoming a parent, “made me realize that I really had to walk in a code because I can tell my children anything but what I walk in is what they’ll emulate.” This quote was the foundation of The Wave Volume No. 21.

Special thanks to Asston Kusher, Ashley Jonique, Enitan Martins and Josh Barber. Their perspective on parenthood have helped me immensely.

Today is my first Father’s Day and I created this episode to help ease my spirit and timestamp this moment in time in my life. I love my daughter Sorai Cacayuran Virgin and cannot wait to meet her later this summer.

Feel the vibes and ride… The Wave.
